Trying to put flywheel back on but it won't make complete rotation. Seems like it is getting hung up on the coils underneath. Do i have to have coils in a certain position in relationship with the shaft in order for the flywheel to be installed properly?

Sounds like you haven't got the coil air gap set correctly on the mag plate.

Yes. Terry. The coils should be located to maintain at least .010" clearance from the flywheel. I usually did this "shadetree" style by loosening the coils slightly and installing the flywheel with a dollar bill between for clearance, then tightening the coils.
I am sure there is a more reliable method to adjust the clearance.

Well one method would be to purchase a coil adjusting ring from F_R on this forum.

You could also just adjust the coil so that the lamination egde is flush with the mounting boss, run your fingernail across it, if it catches it is out too far. Slowly rotate flywheel after installation to ensure the coils arent catching.

FYI, you dont want the coils in too far either, or you will have weak spark. Have to find the sweet spot.

I used to use a wide flat blade screw driver to align the coils with the mag plate.
