I have a seaking by chrysler 4 hp motor. I have just gotten it running good and took it to the river today to test it out. Motor fired up great and pushed my jon boat well. Only thing is it got extremely hot. I know when I was testing it at the house and had the water hose hooked up on the foot it was peeing so I figured it was pumping the water the way it should be. However I only got about 200 yards down the river when I noticed it was smoking hot. I shut it off and allowed it to cool down. It fired back up and I went back to the landing to load it up and by the time I got back again it was smoking hot again. What do I need to do here? Model number is VWB52004B and serial number is 08X 20978.

Also, could someone tell me what the fuel mixture should be for this motor? And if I have it mixed wrong would that cause my issue?

Re: seaking 4hp seems to be overheating

I had the same problem with an '83 4hp, i dropped the lower unit, took cover off of pump and verified impeller was ok.put cover back on and hooked up my drill to drive shaft, when i found i had little or water, i used air to clean out orifices and also the tube that goes to the head. Now i have water flowing. Be advised that these units don't pee a heavy stream like you are used to with other motors. Ran it up and down the lake without overheating, even tho i had, what i considered very little water circulating. Good luck, these are nice little motors.
