Re: seaking/6hp lowerunit

Could it be model 27906A? It is from the mid-60s. The design was unchanged up until about '69.

The breakage is not from an ill-attempted repair. It's from someone slamming the motor into reverse at high RPMs. The metal around the retaining ring cracks and sometimes the entire innards exit the gearcase at high speed.

The standard repair for cracks in the case is welding, even if there is metal missing.

Are you saying that there's nothing in the gearcase?

If you don't have the innards, the only cure is to get another lower unit from a used motor - the seals are available aftermarket through the sierra catalog, but the metal parts are not.

Try placing an online want ad on the webvertize page at www.aomci.org. The problem is that the gearcases are a fairly rare find given the propensity to crack.

I have the parts and service manual for the motor so e-mail me (krdenman@shaw.ca) if you would like a copy. also, if you can describe to me exactly what is left in the gearcase, I may have the parts. You'll still have to go to the trouble of getting the unit welded.

Ken

Re: seaking/6hp lowerunit

thank's ken,The mod/sel# are correct. The guy i got this from is a friend he thinks it my be a 86 yr mod.I don't know when wards stoped selling motors.but this has the same gas line hookup as my 86 sears, but it may have been changed.Yes prop, propshaft, bearings, gears, are all gone he thinks he still has them somwhere. he did try to pry snap ring out;welding will be no trouble that is what i do at work. i'll get with you if your parts will fit.
