ok so i have a sea king outboard and i just recently acquired a manual that should help me get it started but flipping through it i saw that there was a generator in a picture where the last time i remember looking at the motor there wasnt a generator or anything there. me and a friend thought that there was just an empty space or another starter went there. so ya basically im searching for a generator and everything i need for an install so i can get this darn thing running. anyone got an idea where i can get one? oh and also does anyone know where i can get the retainer gasket thing that goes into the fuel pump setup? if anyone knows where i can get these parts for this motor it would be greatly appreciated.
THANKS!!

Re: seaking parts needed

OK,We need the model number to tell who built it for them.Sounds like it may be a Gale built motor(similar to E/J)You don't need a generator and it probably didn't have a generator originally.
it has a magneto ignition (doesn't require a battery). You can start it many many times without a recharge.Running lights don't use much either.
we used to run ours every weekend for weeks ,lights fri and sat probably start a dozen times then sit for the week and start right up next fri.
Of course for extended battery health its good to charge it regularly.
We (I) never did, teenager at the time.Usually didn't get charged till it started to fade.
A generator probably only charges at 5 amps or so so not much use for
trolling motor battery or running a giant stereo.

Re: seaking parts needed

ya its a gale i know that much. and ya when i did get the motor it didnt have a generator but lookin through the manual i thought it was missing one and we needed it. but apparently not correct? also i thought that would also solve why the cable box keeps over heating the wires coming from the battery. ive looked through a lot in this manual and i cant see where i could have a short in the electrical. i mean we had the battery charged and all but when we go to turn it over the 12 volt capacitor thing just clicks and shuts everything down. it does that until we apparently discharge it enough to have the starter crank the motor but weakly. anyone got a clue to what my prob is with this thing?

Re: seaking parts needed

Does the solenoid in the box look like it's newer than the other stuff in there. It could be the wrong one. That has happened a lot of times...someone installing an automotive solenoid.

Otherwise, it shouldn't get hot at all.

The correct one is available from BRP, but it's very expensive. It could also be that things are miswired, either in the box or in the outboard. Since you have a manual, it should have a wiring diagram.
