Ok so I have a 58 fastwin 18 pulled apart to put new seals in, ordered the kit and I'm kinda lost. I ordered kit number 18-2684. A few of the seals iv done already; one behind prop and the o ring right by it, and the one right below the water pump but the one that came out was 1 piece, and the only seal(s) that fit the driveshaft were of a 2 piece design I'm guessing. Now there's a fat o ring for the shift shaft, but the ones that I'm not sure of, 2 nylon washers, one 1/4in o ring, another seal the same as the prop shaft seal, another large o ring like the one on the prop shaft seal housing but it's thinner and 2 fabric washers that don't fit the fill/drain plugs.

Well see, the kits do whatever they can to update to later design, or to fit several models. One example is two thinner seals where previously one thick one was used. If there is room, install both thin ones, one lip toward the oil and one lip toward the water. If there is not room for both, then you can only use one, lip toward the oil

Some shifter fork pivot screws use an o-ring, some use a fiber gasket. So, both are supplied. Likewise, fill & drain screws. Frankly, you are describing stuff that I'm not sure what it is for, such as the large/thin o-ring. Bottom line, use what you need and don't lose sleep over what does not apply.

Yay, picture worked lol ok, so now you can see the two larger o rings, and you can actually see the shift pivot screw in the background. The small o ring seems a tad small but might be ok. And as for the washers, like I said the felt ones are too large to fit in the recess but out of all the reading iv done, iv never seen anyone mention plastic washers for the drain

I'm having a hell of a time with the shift rod seal, I don't have the means to tap it right now and pull it with a bolt so I have just been in there with a screw driver and hammer. I have to change it now bc I wrecked the o ring

Actually with some patience you can change the o-ring without pulling the bushing !!----Too late now I guess.-----Run a 5/16-NC tap in there and pull it out .-----New bushings are in stock at many shops.

Well the bushing hasn't moved and I haven't wrecked it yet, just the o ring. And I live in a small community and doubt anyone would have a new bushing. I would have to order one

Ok so found a place that had taps... and they were out of 5/16. Just my luck but I did find a 12 inch hanger for a peg board, bought a hack saw and made my own punch. Bushing came out in 3 hits with the adjustable wrench I have been using as a hammer lol

Something went wrong when they packed your kit! The 18-2684 should only have the following in it:

18-0882 SHIFT ROD GASKET x 1- (your motor does not use this, but it would be used in conjunction with the fat shift rod o ring for certain bushings. If you have 2 of these, you wont need either obviously) By the way, impossible to properly do with the bushing in place. Remove the bushing or you will damage it, along with the o ring.

18-2032 OIL SEAL x 1 - This is the drive shaft seal

18-4248- WASHER x 2- These are the white nylon crush washers for drain and vent screw

18-7100- O RING x 1- This is the wide o ring for the shift rod seal

18-7120-O RING x 1-This is for the pivot pin (Phillips screw)

18-2031-OIL SEAL x 1-This is the prop shaft seal. The older 18-2684 kits use to give you pn#18-2005 for this seal, which has same dimensions, only not as wide. It is .25" wide, not the .312" wide like the 18-2031 seal. Really either will work here.

18-2534- SPAGHETTI SEAL x 1-Self explanatory where this goes.

18-7112- O RING x 1- This is the largest o ring, for the prop shaft seal head. (I find it odd that this o ring is always left out of the content list for this kit for some reason) The other o ring in the kit, pn 18-7411 is used on the late 70s 25hp. As this kit also covers that model, they include the o ring in the kit. Just toss it after you are done.

Yea, I'm not very impressed with my order threw sierra. This kit was messed up and the water pump kit (18-3377) never came with the grommet for the tube and that's the reason u bought it.
