I'm getting water in the lower unit. I have replaced all the oil seals. Propshaft oil seal and O ring, Shift rod seal, drive shaft oil seal and the gaskets for the fill plugs. I think the big problem is no one can find my year for this motor so they just give me whats its close to..??..

I have been told that this motor was never made but here it sits on my little boat. One person told me here some time back he thought it was a 68-69 which by the way was the best info I've gotten so far...lol..I wish the parts people I have talked to could find the info he did.

Could it be that the propshaft or the drive shaft is worn at the point of the seal?
I can email pics of the motor info stamp.

Thanks for any help you can give..

Chrysler 35hp
Model 3551
Serial 1183

Re: seal problem

The motor is a 1969. Chances are the drive shaft and or prop shaft is worn at the seals. My guess is the prop shaft. If it is the drive shaft you can turn the shaft upside down and re drill the impeller key hole (have a machine shop do this. It needs to be accurate). That will put the wear mark on the drive shaft away from the seal. The prop shaft would have to be machined to take out the wear spot. These parts are not made anymore. You might be able to find a lower unit for this motor on ebay for around a hundred dollars.
