seal problems

i have a chance to buy a 50 hp evenrude not sure of year mod. only thig it has a bad seal on the shaft under the flywheel is this a big problem or sometning easy to fix and how much would the motor be worth in this conditon

If you have a seal problem you might want to call the SPCA. I didn't realize they were in arkansas though

Hi bob<br />The issue of the seal by its self is no real big deal. How ever the reason the seal is not sealing could be a major problem. The question you have to ask is, why doesn't the owner have it repaired prior to the sale? Main seals do fail on their own from time to time. Most likely something causes it. Main bearing shot, no oil, over heat,etc, etc. If I were buying this motor we would be talking scrap prices.
