Re: sealant for transom plate
I've got a tiny leak from the transom plate on my 280 outdrive. I don't want to take the entire thing off to replace the gasket. Is there a type of sealant like caulk I could apply to to the outside to solve the problem?
Ayuh,.... Generally speakin',.... You can smear whatever stuff you want to around the leak,...
But,...
It's gonna get nothin' but Worse...
Those gaskets don't just startin' leakin' for no reason...
'n the most common reason they Do start leakin' is from rotten wood in the transom...
The bolts loose their compressive force, cause there's no wood left, 'n the leak starts...
'course, the extra water, causes more/ faster rotting of the wood...
The leakin' Gasket is just a symptom,...
You've gotta fix the Cause.....
How old a hull,..??
