sealant or not on riser/elbows

I have 99 volvo penta. I bought new gasket from Volvo for the riser to elbow connection. It specifically said it was a new desgin. The instructions say 'these do not require sealant'. The material appears to be something that will melt and seal as the engine heats up.

However, I just came across a service bulletin from 2010 that said the spray the mating surfaces with copper based adhesive.

So, does any one know which is the most accurate method? Both the gasket purchased and the service manual was from Volvo Penta so I am a little confused. Thanks in advance.

Use the procedures in the service bulletin. You may have gotten an older set of gasket that someone still had on the shelf. The newer kits have updated instructions.
