Looked locally for a repair manual, but no one had one, so I figured I would mess with my motor I got yesterday. I figured I would pop of the air box- intake, as I wanted to see i could look in through the butterfly to see if the carb was gummed up.. The picture show what it looks like, two top screws were holding it on, with two back side bottom screws not attached.. The bottom right, there is a pop off cover to a 1" or so circle hole..

Take off the top screws, take the cover off, and see that it is sealed.. In the bottom left, there is a brass screw threaded in a hole...

So besides the two bottom screws letting the bottom gap a TINY bit, where is the carb drawing air from? Are one of the two holes supposed to be open and attached to something? Sorry for all the questions, I just to get my baby running, but I want to make sure she'll breathe :D

Get your eyeball lower than that camera was and look just below that upper lip towards the flywheel.

That is where you should find an opening that draws the air in from under the flywheel. Besides providing air for it to run the air flow under the flywheel provides cooling for the stator coil.

That brass 'screw' in the lower corner often has a recirc hose to the intake to pull in and burn any fuel spilled from the carb while tilted fully up during transport, which is why the box was to be gasketed/sealed by the cover, to prevent spills to the outside.

Sort of makes sense, once you see and understand the reasoning.

Looking at the rear section, still attached to the carb, I see a couple of channels up the side with cutouts at the top... And looking at the parts drawing I see that the bottom of those channels are not closed off.... I think you'll find that the air travels up those channels.... I also note that the sound box is not used on the later models of those engines....

The channels that start to the left and rights of the two screw heads, that run up towards the top, are for the cables for the carb.. The inside and outside are both sealed, only openings being the four screw holes, the brass screw at the bottom inside left, and the black cap looking thing.. It really has me stumped..

Take a look at the size of that carb veturi.

It doesn't look any bigger than my pinkie finger.

So I would imagine it doesn't need much flow.
