Sealed Gimbal Bearing Question (Alpha 1)

Hello!

I have recently picked up a replacement gimbal bearing. I understand this one is a sealed bearing, with no grease hole on the outside edge. Any bearings I have changed before all had the grease hole, this is the first time I got one without. The new one was made by Quicksilver, the one in the boat now was GLM aftermarket.

This new bearing comes with a plug to replace the grease zirk on the gimbal housing as well. My question is: Is it really necessary to change the zirk out for the plug? I can't see how this would make a difference. But it makes it difficult should a bearing with a grease hole be installed next.

Thought I would run it past the experts here before I go ahead make the change.

Thanks!

Ayuh,.... If the zert is in good shape, yer right it won't leak,...

What happens when somebody puts a grease gun to it, 'n it won't take grease,..??

Most all the new ones are sealed, ya gotta Look to find the greaseable,....

Thanks Bondo for the reply. I never had any problems with water leaking through before, so I think I will leave it as is. I'm the only one who does maintenance on this boat anyway, so no worries about trying to grease an ungreasable fitting :)

Thanks again!

The plug is just the manufactures way to let someone know the bearing is non serviceable any longer weather it's you or someone else someday.;)

So how's your memory these days?????:D
