I'd use 5200. Get everything good and clean, rough it up a little bit with a Scotch-brite pad and you're good to go.

Agree,Either one will work fine but the 5200 is stronger.
If it is something you may want to remove one day then use the 4200.

Is your through hull fitting below the waterline ? .. Im assuming yes..

There is No caulking with nylon fittings below the waterline ( 5200 or otherwise ) you should use..plastic fitting are not for use for below water..

IMHO..use metal ( SS. or Bronze coated ) will work better if your going to replace them.

And use 5200 on All Through hull fittings regardless of materials ..

Yes the fitting will cost you more..but ..

Marelon plastic thru hulls are coast guard approved for use below the water line and bronze or SS needs to be isolated from the aluminum below the water line.

Plenty of boats with plastic thru hulls out there that are factory installed, Yacht Dr. I know that my livewell intake is plastic, and I have never seen one made of stainless or bronze.

Re: sealing a thru-hull

All I was suggesting is that plastic/nylon can snap off when hit..

I know its one in a million..but if your going to replace a through hull fitting below the waterline then why not make it bronze ( or another metal ) ?

Remember..some of Iboaters dont have trailered boats..and have to rely on straps to haul...

Am I being Paranoid..sure..am I over thinking...aye..will I ever have a through hull fitting snap off from wood ( or other floating debris in the water ) possible. Has a through hull fitting ever snapped off from crap in the water in My boat(s)..no.

But I know people that have snapped there plastic off .. They suggest what Im passing on to you...
