sealing a water jacket

In my 1949 Ke 4 manual it says to use "Permatex" to seal the water jacket gaskets. I haven't used that stuff in a long time and i remember it was really tough to remove that stuff. Is there a better and merc recommended product that i should be using or is Permatex still the required animal ?

Permatex #3 aviation gasket dressing works well and will never harden.<br /><br />Or, if you like, an anaerobic sealer such as OMC Gel-Seal or the Loctite (permatex) brands will do a great job.
