I have receive the head gasket to put on the second 7.5HP that I'm working on. I also got my OMC factory service book 2-8HP printed in '86.

They say to torque the bolts between 144-168 in. lbs for the powerheads between 5 and 8 HP. My motor is a '83. Also they mention that I need a gasket sealer. Is it necessary with today's new gaskets?

Most newer gaskets do not require sealer if they have the shiny glaze to them. Does yours have this?

Not really, just on the edges.

Normally if the gasket doesn't require any sealer it will say "use no sealer". If it doesn't, I would put gasket sealing compound on it. Don't use any sealer on intake manifold gaskets, carb gaskets and ect.

This another one of those highly debated questions. Trust me, before I replaced my head gasket last summer I searched the old threads for a definitive answer. I bought an OEM gasket and it didn't indicate whether it needed sealer or not. Anyway, I skipped the sealer, torqued it to specs and so far no leaks. Take it for what it's worth. Good luck.

Remember to re-torque the head after you have ran the motor up to operational temperature.

RESULTS:

90 PSI MAX on both cylinder, I torqued them to the minimum torque my book says.

Before installing the gasket, I put in 2 stroke oil in the cylinders. And no, I didn't use sealer.

Not having the carb on and the starter I cranked the motor with a drill with the ? flywheel nut.

I wonder if it's good and worth to continue working on it? Is the gasket still good if I wan't to put it on my other 7.5 which runs good?

90# seems a lil low to me but it should fire and run that way.
suggest using the pull start and letting us know what the compression that way is, i believe you want carb wide open and both plugs out for the compression test.
