Hi,
I need to seal the front air vent on my gas tank. It is too tall. I will be using the rear vent for venting the tank. also the Fill hose is alo vented. What would be a good way to seal the vent. It is 5/8 pipe. Perhaps a cap epoxied on the end. Thanks Roman
Also, This tank is new. There is a grounding fitting. Where should that ground lead from the tank. Thanks Roman

I would think a cap would do the trick. They put caps on water lines and they carry 60 psi. May want to put some Teflon tape on the threads. They make one for gas. Could run it back to the ground on your battery.

Does your boat have a bonding system? If not, ground it to the ground side of your wiring.
The vent,cap it,use teflon tape.

Cut a length of 5/8" hose about 6" long. Slip one end over the vent and put a hose clamp on it. Don't bother with two. Take a 5/8" x 3 or so bolt and stick it in from the other end of the hose, then put a hose clamp around the hose on that end to make sure the bolt doesn't come out. Now not only will your vent be closed but it will be reopenable and you will also have two spare hose clamps on the boat if you need them.

Thom

Re: Sealing Gas Tank Vent

Thanks for the reply. I appreciate it very much. The vent is a little too high for the floor boards, this will help. The gas fill that I will be installing will be a plastic one, not metal. It is vented. Then I should simply ground the tank to a negative circut. How about grounding it to the block.
Thanks again Roman

Roman, you didn't say if your boat has a bonding system, yes, you can ground it to the block. When installing your fill cap,run a green wire to the nuts and screws up under were it is install, running the wire back to the tank grounding strap, jump off there to your engine block.NOTE*wrap the wire around the fill hose a few times.
What this does,it protects you when you are fill up your boat at a marina when in the water, friction when filling could make a bad day on the water!BANG!
Also,it serves other problems, matching different metals in a boat.
