Can anyone telll me the best way to seal the area where my control cables come out into the splash well. When the water get a little rough or when I come to a rapid deceleration water get into the holes where the cables come out. I put duck tape there for a quick fix till I got the grommets, which are not split and I am not to sure of them. There is a 2" and about a 1" hole. Would some kind of silicone or marine sealant work better?

Can you get around to the back side of the grommets, and silicone the crap out of the hidden side. even if you have to split the grommets to get them on. place the split down to hide it. then slap some tape on the back side to hold it in place till it can cure. I use silicone on service entrance cables instead of the old ductseal never had a call back since.

They are cone shaped gromments that I thought where to be mounted from the outside, but that sounds like a good idea and I will see if I can get to them from the back side and will use plenty of silicone. Thanks for the advice.

Do NOT USE SILICONE!! It will not hold up under marine conditions.

Use 3m 4200 and it will seal up and be removable if needed. WARNING if you use 3m5200 you will never remove the cables.

there will not be enough water getting in during short term events, to worry about! pull your drain plug after you load your boat. And your bilge pump is a plus +.

Seems to be at times about 3-5 gallons draining after about 5-7hrs out when its rough. The Bowrider is low is the stern area anyway so the splash well get full often and the holes are very close to that. Bilge is working(hear motor) but never seems to pump water out, even when there is about five gallons of water in the boat. Is this something normal?

I find nothing works better than a properly installed "witches hat".

I have a couple of items like that that with no split. need to install them with the 3m 4200, and see how it works. Thanks.
