I am replacing an old fish finder & the screw holes that were made for the old transducer don't line up with the new transducer bracket. Upon examining the holes in the transom, probing & proding with a pick I find the wood to be dry, & solid. My question is what is best to seal them with, Marine Tex, 5200, Life chalk, any, or none of these? I figure I'll bed the new screws with 5200, unless I get other better sugestions. Thanks Guys, Joe

Marine-Tex for the old holes, anything but 5200 for the new ones. I don't think you want to permanently attach it ...

If it's a Fiberglass Hull,.... I Agree with the Marine-Tex.....

If it's an Aluminum hull,..... I'd bed some screws in 5200 to seal the old holes.....
And,... Use the 4200 for the New 1.....

Re: Sealing Transducer Screw Holes in Transom

Out here in Africa we do it the old fashion way , If the holes in question go right through the transom,Make up or buy a suitably sized round dowel and drill the holes to insure a slightly tight fit, coat the dowel pins with a two part epoxy and tap into the holes to be plugged, the dowels must be slightly shorter then the thickness of the transom (1mm)and driven in by that amount below the outside surface of the transom, this slightly below surface indentation can then be filled in with a touch of jellcoat 0r flowcoat or what ever to match the transom colour and texture,by doing the job this way, a solid and leak free repair is in place,Kind regards William Wright,"boat restorer extraodinaire"

Great idea jurgens craft! I swear the guy who had my boat before I started restoring it got a new drill for Christmas and wanted to try it out on something…of all things he picked my transom
