hi All,

I have a Seamaster Premium Maintanence free Marine battery,I dont know the previous history,But i have cleaned the terminals and charged it 2 weeks ago,I put a volts meter on it today and its still holding 12.68 volts.

Is this still in good condition ?

Thanx

Re: SEAMASTER Battery

12.68v 2 weeks after charging sounds like its holding charge great. Now you gotta see if it has maintained its reserve capacity by putting it into service (or taking to an auto parts store for a load test).

By measuring the terminal voltage of a battery you can deduce its state of charge. A fully charged 12-Volt lead-acid battery will have a terminal voltage above 12.8-Volts. The temperature and the accuracy of your voltmeter affect the reading. If your battery terminal voltage is 12.68-Volts it is near full-charge.

The terminal voltage will not indicate the battery's stored energy capacity. The battery may be near the full-charge, but its capacity to store energy may be reduced. To make an estimate of the battery's storage capacity you will need a current discharge into a load. Most people do not have the necessary equipment to perform a load test, however many battery retailers have battery test devices which can measure the battery capacity without deeply discharging the battery. I suggest you locate a retailer with such a test device, take the battery to them, and have it load tested. Of course, there is a tendency for retailers to always perform tests which indicate a new battery is needed, so select a retailer (or someone with proper load test equipment) that you consider trustworthy.
