Re: searay

I have a 1972 18' sea ray and i love it!!. I have a 115 yamaha on it and it goes 47mph easy at 4800 rpm. The link that has my share a project is incomplete. Im almost done i just haven't updated shareaproject site. Its a well made boat especially the time you are talking about. A perfect choice for a restoration in my opinion. That is as long as there is nothing crazy wrong with it. Good luck and ive had 3 older boats and the sea ray is the one ive kept.

Re: searay

I restored a 1977 24ft searay, it only had a 350 chev w/volvo outdrive, never should have sold that boat, it was very nice. the only problem that I ran into with it was as follows

1. it was a older boat, so the seam on the glass and cabin windows leaked

2. it was very heavy, and a pain to launch and load

3. the canvas top was no good and had to replace it ($$$)

4. it had only a icebox, and not the fridge

all in all it was a great boat, hope this helps:)

I had a 1978'- 24' SeaRay Cuddy with a 350/260 Mercruiser, I used in the Great South Bay L.I. it was a great boat, it will do whatever you want. It is deep, & heavy, and will rise up high on plane, like a big SUV, you'll be looking down on most other smaller boats, and will give you a good dry, smooth, stable ride, in just about any conditions, but it needs trim tabs to help keep it level,(sometimes leaning on plane) because of the big Deep Vee centrally located. The Vee at the transom is not as deep as some boats, which actually helps make it faster on plane. I got 40mph out of mine with a 15X17" pitch prop, and late model center rise manifolds, & risers, and thru-hull exhausts.

Re: searay

thanx for your responses. the cost to buy is $ 2000.00 with a trailer.
i figure structuraly and cosmetics will cost approx $ 2500.00. unsure about motor at this time, thinking about a pod and outboard as i will be removing the floor i can reinforce the stringers, the interior of the cuddy isnt bad. can anyone tell me the location of the holding tank. this boat has no top but plan to remove windows and make hardtop.

Holding tank, not sure what you mean by this? Is the boat a Cuddy, or a Weekender? there were 2 models available back then, the cuddy just had a large size V-berth with a concealed head in the middle. The weekender had the same hull, but a real cabin underneath, (with I think) a fridge, a stand up head, a small table, & booths, a stove, and a V-berth, with less cockpit area.
