I have recently acquired this outboard and would like to get it running properly. From what I have found it is a 3.5hp Eska with a Tecumseh motor. Made in 1967 or so.

To my knowledge, it hasn't been used in 20 years. The gas tank and carb were drained, so not much lacquer to deal with.

To start, I did some basic cleaning of the carb and fuel lines, put in fresh gas and it started fairly quickly, it would run briefly but not idle. Okay, good sign!

I ordered a carb kit and have it ready to put on.

1. Does anyone have a service manual, or a place I could order one? If not would there be an "equivalent" Eska model that I could search for a manual for?

2. Also, to someone familiar with these models, what would be an order of things to check on this motor. Meaning, what usually goes bad, or what are the common problem areas?

It seems like a fairly simple machine, but I just want to make it as reliable as can be, for a 50 year old outboard!

Thanks in advance
Josh

I am a novice myself when it comes to these motors but I did a lot of reading because Im having issues as well. But I can tell you this much. take the carb completely apart, soak and clean every little crevice. Make sure everything is installed properly, including the flapper valve at a 2-8 o clock cant. Dont forget to remove and replace the needle seat, it gets overlooked. Also check that your float does not have a hole in it, and that it is at the right height. Also, might be of worth to check the impeller on that thing as well.

This manual might be of some help.

I wrote this post with service info and a manual for (I think) the same engine based on your description:

I read your post and looked at your service write up. Your write up is for a Clinton and CobisCaller has an Eska. It has a Tecumseh powerhead and a Clinton leg. Though your info is uaefull for all these type motors there is a difference. 67 Eskas shouldnt be water cooled that year and size. The carb is also different. Ive restored a bunch and as well as Clintons.
