Hi everyone. I am new here and I have to say I am also new to boating. I have been looking for a 3.5 HP for my sea eagle 8 and I finally found some person online. This person has a couple of motors, 2 sears and 1 roebuck, 3.5 HP. He says that if you put some gas on them they will run but that they need new fuel lines and carbs cleaned. Now he could not tell me the year but he said they are old. I asked him for the model numbers and I am still waiting for an answer (this was today). He told me to come over and see them and make an offer. My question is, would you guys be able to tell me how much I should be paying for them if I show you the picture? Maybe you will be able to identify some of them. I just need one, and I am inclined towards the Sears ones ( are the Roebuck good motors?). Here it is the picture (the ones I am talking about are the 3 in the middle, the other 2 on each side are a 7.5 and a 5 I believe, and which I can not use due to my boat size.)
Thanks everyone!

Re: Sears 3.5 HP question

In my opinion I absolutely would not buy any of those small motors.
They appear to be early odd ball Sears motors possibly Eska built
or Clinton. They have a poor reputation, have been out of business for over 20 years and were a poor design to start with.noisy, vibrate and underpowered and unreliable.
Hold out for a Johnson or Evinrude 3hp from 52-68.They are water cooled twins,Smooth, powerful, relatively quiet and easy to work on.A vast supply of new and used parts from dozens of vendors and BRP dealers nationwide.
Of course no motor is any better than the care it has been given.
