I am in need of a reed plate assembly for a Ted Williams 4.5 hp. The motor number is 217-59460. Apparently the only source is from someone parting out that motor. Any leads or information would be welcome.

Keep an eye on eBay, but you'll probably only see whole motors. Never hurts to have a parts motor. :)

Yours is a 1971 with Tecumseh 642-07C powerhead. I don't ever recall seeing one of theese used on a lawnmower, but maybe.

You might try here...
http://www.twincityoutboard.com/
If you happen to live in the Eau Claire area, that isn't far away.

Re: Sears 4.5

I just picked up a craftsman 4.5 HP outboard. I got it running but am not sure of the gas/oil mix. It is blowing white smoke. Any tips on how to find out more about the engine?
