SEARS/ESKA Carburetor kit Part # help

Hi Guys,

I have a 1971 5 hp Sears/Eska model # 217.59310. It uses the Tecumseh power head model 643-13 s/n 6661971.

This outboard has a lauson carburetor fitted. I understand Tecumseh aquired the Lauson company may years prior to this outboards manufacture.

So, I went to searspartsdirect.com and found the part number for a carb rebuld kit but it's no longer available. I believe the carburetor is a model CA-631573 based on some info I pulled of partstree, however I cannot find a carb kit that crosses directly to the OEM number.

Does anyone have a cross reference and source for this kit p/n 631373?

Thanks MSZ, I checked out the Brix kit and it only contains about half the parts of an actual Tecumseh carb kit. I need the "Power screw Assembly" and it's not part of the Brix kit.

I did a little more research and there are several online and local Tecumseh repair shops that can help me out. Lots of stuff crosses over from other kits and carb models so if I show up with the parts I need in hand they can match it up.

Certified Parts Corp. has at least one disatisfied customer! Until CPC get there Tecumseh parts network properly set up and can produce parts in volume their old stock will be expensive.

For me , I've learned my lesson. I have this Sears/Eska 5 hp and a Clinton J5 that I am just trying to get running well enough to sell. Next time I see one at a garage sale I think I'll just leave it there.

Hey mat_man22,

I've thought of that. I have a 55 Johnson 5.5 that needs a powerhead rebuild. A loacal surplus store has a 6.5 hp Briggs on sale for $88. I could throw away the impeller, bolt the motor on with an adapter plate and drive shaft coupling. If I was really clever I might be able to find a way to get the throttle to work off the twist grip. I would evewn have forward-neutral -reverse.

I have one question though. Most of these engines are designed with a governor to run at one speed. What do you do with the governor linkage and throttle setting to get these motors to idle down to trolling speed and then accelerate smothly?
