Re: Sears Gamefisher 3hp

A model number would help. Many companies built motors for Sears.
Does it seem to labor like running through heavy weeds and stall or does it just seem to fizzle out and die? Will it restart after a minute or so?Can you pull the rope right away after a stall?
If it labors like running through weeds it could be over heating If it kind of fades out it may be a fuel supply problem. Is the tank vent open? Is the fuel shut off open?

EDIT: This is a 4 year old thread. Really bad manners to hijack it at all, but very against our rules to offer anything for sale.

Please read and respect our rules.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Re: Sears Gamefisher 3hp

I just got a 3.0 gamefisher. I have not found any adjustment on the carb besides the idle screw.. Seems to be running real rich. Under a load it just seems to not run like it should. At WOT in the water if you pull the choke on it slowly just dies. I have completely takin the carb apart and cleaned. Also cleaned the take. Took pet **** off and replaced with a fuel shut off..any suggestions?

EDIT: YES. start your own thread instead of hijacking a 4 year old, dead thread.

Re: Sears Gamefisher 3hp

runs great at idle speeds but at top end it slows down or dies
I've been running a Tanaka/Sears 3HP for 29 years now. Sounds like you have a fuel restriction in the line, petcock, etc., or a restriction in the gas tank vent(screw on cap should be open)....very simple and easy motor to work on. Good Luck!:)

There are different positions for the carb slide needle to adjust mixture....move that clip up or down to change amout carb needle opens that main jet....very simple!

I just moved the clip to the lowest setting on the needle to where it would open the most. Still no change. It sounds just like your weedeater sounds when you have to much line out.

I have a little 3 hp Gamefisher/Tanaka too. It recently started bogging down on my as well at WOT, but after a thorough carb cleaning and inspection of the fuel lines, it's running great again. I simply removed the carb, then disconnected the throttle linkage, disassembled it and gave it the once over with some aerosol carb cleaner (wear safety glasses) and put it all back together again. The model I have uses a simple thumb screw for the idle adjustment and that's it. I have found taht it seems to like at least 1/4 tank of fuel at all times to keep the gravity feed working well. Make sure the tank is properly vented too. Mine has a little screw in the gas cap that you open.

If you move the clip to it's upper position, that lowers the needle, which reduces the amount it opens the main jet and it runs less rich...try that
