I've just dragged on old 7.5 hp gamefisher out off mothballs after years of storage, and found the lower unit completely seized up.

After pulling the lower unit out and freeing everything up, I'm left with a few problems.
1. When reinstalling the impeller, should I lubricate the rubber with oil, vasaline, silicone, or just leave it dry?
2. What kind of oil do I use to fill the lower unit? Will automotive oil such as 10/30 weight detergent oil work?
3. What's the secret to getting the lower unit pushed back up into the leg? It's about 1/2 inch short of being home, but I can't seem to line it up. Whats the trick?

any of those will work and you do want to give it a rub of something slippery, I have even used olive oil.

No 10-30, use only marine gear oil 85-90w

Ok the trick here is your water tube has a dog leg on the end that goes into a hole in the cooling plate below the engine, I always shine a light down the leg and locate the hole, its just off to the side of the clutch, find it insert the water tube, then slide the lower unit down until you ingage the drive shaft into the clutch...you use that 1/2 inch to insert your finger and guide the pump end of the tube into the pump hole....grease the shaft splines they so don't rust up.
