I'm afraid I'm going to break something when trying to remove the flywheel. Is there a special tool I don't know about?

Thanks

there is a special tool, part number 670236A for AV-750 to remove the flywheel. i don't know if it is even available anymore. you may need to apply a good penetrating oil and go to a local auto parts store and see if you can find a gear puller or a harmonic balancer puller that might fit your model.do not use a torch to heat it up although you can use cold spray after applying the penetrating oil. i know there are probably 10 different types of flywheel pullers as it seemed each manufacturer has there own special way of removing them. hope this helps, good luck.

I have never used a puller on a Tecumseh outboard flyheel, I never saw one that was tapped for a puller, the manual calls for the use of a "knockoff tool" and a large screw driver to pry with, just get a deeper nut the same thread count as you flywheel nut and you will have a knock off tool and of course a 2lb hammer.

Narwhals I read in the manual that the float setting is different for the 15 than the 9.9

The way I get my 7.5 flywheel off is to back the crank nut off till it's flush with the end of the crank, pry up on the underside of the flywheel with a screwdriver, or the handle of my swivel head 3/8" drive ratchet, and shock the end of the crank/nut with a hammer, or a foot long piece of 1.5" aluminum bar stock. Be careful where you pry, though, because the engine's aluminum castings are soft, and you can break cooling fins very easily. It's always bugged me a little to be slamming on the crank end, but it's always worked, and I've never been able to see any problems caused by it.

It takes very little prying, just a steady pressure where Marty said and a couple good raps with a 2lb....I usally use a red rag to pad the nut and crank. Your not hurting it much by driving on the crank although if you have the power head off I use a dead blow hammer to drive the other end back up toward the babbit race.

As a side note if you use the original thin Tecumseh flywheel nut as your knock off tool (not recommended) you need to replace it, and as a good update to the system get a nut with about double the thread count to replace the original. I have had flywheels beat the original nut off the crank after using it for a knockoff tool....I learned the hard way

Ok here is what it says...bear in mind this manual is only up to year model 1975,

"float setting should be 0.185-0.235 inch, for carburators used on type 380 engines and 0.155-0.217 for carburators on type 381." mm are given also
I take that as 9.9 vs 15hp

I'll check my setting next week on the float as i don't think i'll get to it before heading up north for another shot at the elusive musky. had a a real beast next to the boat on the last trip but my partner missed it with the net twice before it spit the hooks, that was a quiet moment of disbelief. i think my eska is a 84 or 85, i'd have to go back and check my notes to be sure. have a good weekend to all, keep the lines wet and the boat upright. best regards, Vince.
