Re: Sears Gamefisher groaning-rubbing noise
Here is what I learned about these motors.
There are four screws holding the entire bottom section on. (mean't to take a picture but got in a hurry). I took out the two screws holding the exhaust pipe to the head. There are 3 spring loaded metal parts that move outward as the motor is accelerated. They push against a cup that is in the bottom section. There was some crud built up in that cup so I cleaned it out with sand paper. I turned the prop and it felt like something might have been stuck down below and it let loose. I sprayed the springs with lube and put it back together. Worked great.
The other problem was the fuel system.
I had to bypass the sediment bowl so I put a 1/4" fuel line and a lawnmower fuel filter on. The motor would run awhile and quit. With the heavier line, there was a tall arch in the line going into the carb. Since there is no fuel pump, the fuel didn't always make it through.
I replaced it with clear line that was more flexible and got more of a level line to the carb. I tied it so it wouldn't touch the hot motor.
Then I discovered if it was tilted too far back or forward it woudl cause problems. It works best tilted slightly forward.
I've only run it for 20 minutes but I think all the problems were solved.
Hope this helps sombody else.
