Sears Gamefisher?

I have a what I was told is a 7.5 Sears Gamefisher. The tag that shows the serial# is trashed so I dont know what it is. All I can see is that its a sears motor,Im guessing early to mid 80's. It ran great for 2 days then it just overheated and stopped. I need an impeller but dont know how to get one with a motor I cant get a serial# off of. It runs great for a few minutes then gets hot again.

Re: Sears Gamefisher?

It is kind of hard to answer without a model number. One problem is that in 1987 or so Sears changed manufacturers for their Gamefisher outboards.
You can check www3.sears.com and type in 217585841 for a model number to get a parts list. That is a 1981. The Gamefishers were similar for a few years around that time and would likely use the same impeller. If the motor looks like yours, it's probably ok.

Good luck.

How quickly and how much does it overheat? What are you using for a fuel/oil mixture? My 1980 7.5 manual states to use 50:1 TCW-3 oil (probably due to the water cooled exhaust). It has a lot of hours on it, and I run around 40:1, just to be safe. Another thing. Be sure not to run it out of water as you will damage the impeller (again, I'm assuming you're talking about an Eska-built, air cooled engine/water cooled exhaust motor).

I havent run the motor out of water but there isnt water coming out of the two exhaust ports at all. The impeller doesnt seem look bad to me either but Im no boat mechanic though. Can you post a pic of your motor to compare if it looks like mine? I run 50:1 in it. It takes about 5 minutes before it gets too hot to run and dies.

Re: Sears Gamefisher?

Is that a 2 cylinder low profile motor with full fnr gear shift?Color?
Is the power head air cooled?look for fins on the cylinder and blades on the flywheel surrounded by an air shroud.

Don't run the outboard until it locks up if it's overheating or you will score up the cylinder(s), don't know if you were, but thought I should caution you on that. Does the cowl look like this one (overall shape and paint color, not decals)

If so, let me know and I'll get you the S/N off my 7.5HP Gamefisher ("Force") outboard. Impellers are about $10-15 and if it's overheating you need to replace the impeller,,, and then go from there.

My cowl does look like that. I did a search for Gamefisher 7.5hp on Google and nothing looked like mine but the 9.9 and 15 hp models look just like it. I dont have any stickers like yours but it sure looks just like it. Im guessing that mines a 9.9 not a 7.5 I was told it was when I purchased my boat. A model number or whatever I need to get parts would be great!

That pic was off the internet, not from my outboard, my 7.5HP Gamefisher has different looking decals. The 7.5HP Gamefisher/Force outboards were a very limited run, only 2-3 years, something like 88-89. Here's the Sears S/N off my 7.5HP Gamefisher;

225.581751

You can look up all the parts from the "Part Catalog" at http://www.crowleymarine.com/ Takes some poking around to find where they have the SEARS outboards listed, but they are there.

Im guessing my motor is made by Force then ehh? I'll try to figure out how to post a pic of my motor. It ran great for a long time before this problem.

I went to that Crowley Marine site and was able to narrow it down from an 88-92 motor. What exactly difference between a 9.9 and a 15 hp motor? Is it just a different carb or is the bore and stroke different too. It seems this thing I have isnt air cooled then I dont think. They dont sell the impeller I need though.

Yeah, it's a Force outboard, rebadged for Sears. From the research I've done the carb is different along with exhaust tuning and something to do with the reeds, probably other things that can't be determined from a parts breakdown.

It's not air cooled.

Search the Iboats store and see if they have the impeller, it's a pretty common from what I've seen.

Re: Sears Gamefisher?

My next question since I now know its not air cooled is does the water still come out the two small exhaust holes and how much will come out being its water cooled?

Re: Sears Gamefisher?

These outboards don't have a "telltale" so you won't see a stream of water coming out. But, you will see a mist of water coming out the exhaust relief holes.

Personally, I hate the location of these holes as I can't water misting out while I'm in the boat. Instead, I reach around the back of the engine and cup my hand under the exhaust relief holes to make sure some water is being pushed out and into my hand.

Thinking of adding a telltale to the engine so I can see a stream of water coming out of the outboard...

Re: Sears Gamefisher?

Well I ended up finding out it was an 88-92 Force made motor. Still unsure of size. My dad ended up taking it home to "tinker" with it. Low and behold he figured it out. Its a shortshaft motor- I need a long shaft on my boat. I only ran it 2 times and it ran great. Third time it was in rough seas and prop was coming out of the water, not enough cooling water! So the Dumb *** of The Day Award goes to ME!:D I put one of those kicker outboard brackets on and it took it down easily enough to work. Lots of cooling water spitting out now. Thanks for all the help diagnosing my non problem guys!? At least I know I can still get parts for it more or less.

I have a seaking 7 hp motor from montgomery ward, was wondering who manufactured it and if I can get parts like the speed handle gears. The model # is K7003107A and the type is 6027370R if that helps, also when it was made

You can narrow it down a lot more with a careful inspection of the parts. The carb will have a name and number somewhere on it. Other parts will also.

Your 88-92 range may be good enough to buy an impeller as they usually kept them the same for a few years in a row. Don't be a cheap butt, buy a new impeller pin if it uses one as they only last so long and when they faail the impeller don't spin.
