I'm assuming this is a Mcculloch type STW? if not ignore my info.

if so is it a weedless or standard lower unit?

Some of the weedless' if not all, have a little spring loaded ball that pops out when you pull the shift unit up and out of the lower too far....requires disassembling the lower to put it back together.
That said the lower is really simple to take apart and put together.

yes i believe it is mcculoch and has weedless prop,i noticed lower unit has been dissasembled before,so i assume previous may have lost ball,
where does the spring attache??and does ball go in first??
where can i get these parts?? or if anyone knows size of ball am sure i can find one somewhere.....
my guess is ball and spring would attach to the shaft that is attached to proppeller am i correct??
thanks for all the help on this site.....

You should really try to get a service manual you may find an after market ser.manual at the library.I have 2 aftermarket manuals that show excellent
blowups of both units. Each was about $15 including shipping on eBay.On the weedless the prop shaft has a spring in the end then a cap followed by the dog that appears to be a flat I shaped plate this is followed by the shift plunger. It appears the dog is moved by the spring in one direction and the plunger in the other.Another point on the shift rod and cam. When assembled the offset should be on the same side as the flat of the cam.
