I am adding an autopilot and I will have to tee into the steering lines. I don't want any leaks and I don't want to damage the tubing ferruls by compressing them too much. What is the recommended procedure for tightening Seastar 3/8" compression fittings with Seastar nylon tubing? Your help is appreciated.

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,.... Compression fittin's used with plastic tubin' have a insert that goes inside the tubin', 'n the furrel for the outside of the tubin',...
They only need to be tightened to the point they compress the ferrul, 'n don't leak,...

The seastar compression fittings don't come with tubing inserts. The seastar nylon tubing is heavy walled and rigid and I don't think it is made to use an insert. Sort of like copper tube. Its special tubing made specifically for Seastar hydraulic steering and will take up to 1000 psi. The rest of my steering system uses the same fittings and there are no inserts.
My question really is after you insert the tube into the fitting and tighten the nut finger tight, how much do you tighten with a wrench? 1/4 turn, 1/2 turn or what?
