I am rebuilding the seats in an aluminum boat. The old ones were homemade and the material was wrapped around the wood base and stapled to the underside or backside of the wood. I would like to do the same thing but am curious if the staples will penetrate epoxy covered plywood?
and if so, wont that cause wood rot? Or does someone have a better way to attach it?

Here is a link to pictures of the old seats:

http://groups.msn.com/LonestarBoatClub/myprojectlonestar.msnw

You thought about using snaps like a boat top has? When you attach the snap to the wood, you could fill the screw holes with silicone to seal it from wood rot. Plus you can take the seat covers on and off it you need to dry them or clean them.

It would eventually rot, but, I would think that your seat covering material would dry out/crack/split etc before the wood would rot.
