I'm playing with seat height in my Texas Maid runabout restoration. Initial set up is with seat cushion about 7 inches from the deck. Too low, makes it hard to get up and back into the seat. After I get a power problem worked out with one of the outboards, I plan to raise the seats so I have about 7 inches from the deck to the bottom of the seat swivels. As stated by others, it's a matter of personal preference and comfort...visit a marina and check out seats in other boats...mimic what you like in your boat.
us senior guys prefer higher seats. the average chair, is 17-18 inches. it hard to get that high in a boat, for riding. most back to back bases are 6,8,10 inches, then the cushion.
Good advice from everyone. A couple other points to consider:
- Check local regulations. You may find restrictions on the height while underway.
- If you decide on the seat and removable riser, read the manuals. You will find that many do not recommend riding on the seat with the riser in place.
