Seat replacement, what type?

I want to replace the back to back lounge seats in my 87 cobia 19ft bowrider. I was thinking I would replace the driver's seat with a single seat on a pedastal, but here's my problem. When I drive, I sit on the back of the lounge seat with one foot on the seat part and one foot on the floor. I feel like I can see better like this, I don't think I've ever sat in the seat when driving. Has anyone else had this problem, and what did you do? Thanks alot!

Converted my boat to a center console. Now I'll be able to see just fine.....

Had the same problem. Seemed my eyes were level with the top of the windshield when I set in the seat. I solved the problem by replacing the pilot lounge seat with an adjustable pedistal seat. This way I could adjust to desired height. It improved visiblity and added more space in the boat. The only problem is now you have the wind blowing in your face, but it is a small price to pay.

Does the adjustable pedestal seat work like an office chair like a lever with a pneumatic thingy? And is it sturdy? Thanks!

Re: Seat replacement, what type?

It is not pneumatic like an office chair. It has a locking knob for stability. There are several models on the market. I'm sure some are more sturdy than others, just shop around until you find the one which meets your height and stability requirements

An alternative would be to buy a fixed height pedestal and cut it down to your desired height. Also this would be less expensive.

I was lucky in that my seat stradles a stringer and I used a toggle bolt seat anchor set to fasten to the deck. This combination gives me a sturdy seat. Just had to plan where to drill the holes to miss the stringer.

There are some pneumatic types that work just like an office chair, most manufacturers of fishing boats use them now, very comfortable, since they also absorbs shocks, and you can adjust height from lever under seat.

They are very sturdy, in fact, as I said, many mfg installs them as original equipment.
Check large retail stores (West marine, cabelas, overton), once you change to fold up seat with adjustable height, I can guarantee you won't go back.
