I recently decided to restore the captain's chair on my cabin boat. The seat has been striped and the timber and foam rubber seat padding was found to be in good repair. just as a precaution I coated the timber with a low viscosity solvent free penetrating epoxy which will saturate and penetrate the timber, both sealing and strengthening the timber. What must I do to the rubber foam seat padding to preserve and protect it from degrading over time.
regards William Wright

Re: Seat restoration,

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THE REPLY.I thought there was some way to treat the rubber foam so as to stop the ingression of water, especially around the upholstery stitching, maybe the correct thing to do is put the seats in the sun after use( plenty of that Here in SOUTH AFRICA ) and allowing them to dry out completely before storing them, and maybe there must be some form of venting sown int the upholstery.
Regards William Wright

What about treating with some of the seam sealing sticks they use for tents & the like on the stitching?
