As you can see from the picture...there really isn't much room between the console and the livewells (14 1/2 Inches to be exact). What do most people do for seating on these boats (82' Mako Angler 171)? I've seen the long cushion along the top of the starboard for a seat...which I plan to do...but that doesnt really help when under way. The console sits pretty high, and the livewell seating is quite low.

Anyone make some sort of real skinny/small leaning post or something to atleast lean up against while operating the vessle? Something that will still allow you to access the big livewell directly behind the console? I just really need something for support.

Re: Seating/Support

Depending on what's under that deck behind the console, it looks to me like you could install one of those butt seats the bass boat guys use up on the forward casting platform. Clearly, your boat is designed for standing behind the helm.

The butt seats swivel, so it'd be super easy to access your live well from the helm, if needed.

An adjustable pedestal, the butt seat and a pedestal base would do the trick. Mounting would depend on what's under that deck.

Everything is here at iboats...go to the marine store and click seats.

I would install a Leaning Post if it was me, similar to this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Part...adiZ2823QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item280231195638&
or a four leg (two short/two long leg)
Marc..

Very nice leaning post...if it were that simple, I would do the same. Unfortunately, I have 14 inches from the livewells to the console to play with. I contemplated moving the console forward some, but realized the hole in the floor to rig all my wiring is towards the front of the console, and if I moved it forward I would need to glass over that hole and create my own hole in the floor for rigging.

I'm not sure I trust my abilities cutting into floors just yet, so I'm looking for better options.

I think I'm going to make my own leaning post. I've come up with some creative ideas, and can weld some stainless piping together nicely and then get it cushioned. Let me know if anyone has any more ideas for my lack of space.

You need to get a few more rod holders on that boat, TD! :D

Seriously, it's one rod per fishing license here in MN. I have two rod holders on my rig, and often have an rigged rod I'm not using in the second one to clear my limited space. I've had a couple of COs stop me over that. Then, they see the hook on the hook holder and go away.
