Seating to the edge

We currently have a 20' pontoon with the seating and rail stopping 2-3 feet from the edge of the deck. Was recently checking out a 20' pontoon for sale that had the seating/rail extended all the way to the edge of the decking. I like the extra room/seating this allows, however, I was wondering if you have to be at all concerned if you have a couple "big boned" people up front that the bow may go under water while moving around the lake.

Any thought

I also prefer the full deck. Use common sense with your load distribution and things will be fine.

My old toon had that empty front deck which I always considered wasted space. For safety concerns, I never had any one out there if moving. My new one has seats all the way to the front. As with any pontoon you have to balance the load. I determine who sits where and let my passengers know in the most diplomatic way possible.:)

So can I assume that you don't say something like "Ok, you fat asses to the rear and the bikini clad ones to the front."?

Regrettably fat asses and bikini clad ones aren't always mutually exclusive.

Almost any newer toon you look at is laid out this way and wiht alot of people on board you have to delegate seating no matter if they are, um, big boned or not.

It really is wasted space and nothing to worry about unless you had Hawkers crew on board then I don't know if you even notice the boat was going under.

I don't know Hawker. Seems to me like all that extra flotation would have saved her.:p

Re: Seating to the edge

You know, this reminds me of a story. Years ago some buddies and I were heading to an island on Lake Ouachita for a weekend campout. One of the guys was hauling all the gear and firewood on his old barge and I was with someone else in a Ranger. We were speeding across the lake at a pretty good clip when we suddenly started seeing a trail of floating air mattresses, which we quickly traced to a huge houseboat. We started retrieving them from the water and when we had them all gathered we pulled alongside to return them. After a brief chat we pulled away but turned around when we heard "thanks guys" and every female on board was giving us a show. The captain said "Hey, if you see them floatin' return the too." The guy hauling the gear was pretty mad when we told him about it.

On one of several company houseboat trips on lake cumberland the guys used to put out a banner on the side of the boat in 3 foot letters stating ,,, show ur your tits,,, and it worked.
