Second Alternator Output

I can't leave well enough alone. Has anyone tapped into the stator output and added a second rectifier and regulator on a 1988 Johnnny 225? Anthing similar? The purpose for this is to be able to charge an electronics battery without using the typical isolator. When I had my marine electronics business, I used the Balmar twin output alternators on the inboards and i/o's. I did make my own rect./reg. for my 1981 115 Evinrude and that's what I want to add to this engine. It would only be about 8 amps or so. I understand it will lower the output to the main batteries, but I'm not running a huge amount of stuff off them. This would also prevent me from running the mains down by having the electronics on for a long time.

Im not sure what year Johnson/Evinrude came out with power steering, but the flywheel was tapped and threaded for a pulley for belt drive of the hyd pump. Why not use this pulley belt setup to drve a Delco alternator. You can get 100 amps in small package to charge a bank of batteries.

You know, that's why I asked here first! I knew someone had to have some ideas on what to due. A redundant charging system would be interesting. My parts book does show power steering for my engine.
