So ive been using straps around my motor lifting actuators and I was wondering if this is ok and if not do they make something to lock the outdrive of the I/o in place while trailering?

Why do you feel the need to lock it in place? And, by in place do you mean so it can't swing left to right or moving up or down?

You shouldn't have to "lock it in place".

It should be fine all on tis own. If it is dropping while driving, then fix the leak.

Yes, they make a trailering bracket for I/Os. You can buy one here on IBoats. Only a coupleabucks! Its a simple plastic sleeve that goes over the cylinders.

Mercruiser actually recommends the use of one in their Owner's Manual.

silverbullet it isn't leaking its more preventing it from swinging back and forth going down the highway. I cant imagine over time that's good for anyhthing

Secure the steering wheel with a bungee cord or ratchet strap.

I usually tie the outdrive (s) up with a line to the ski tow hook or something. Probably not needed, just peace of mind.

Swinging? That seems odd. Not going to hurt it but I can't say that I've ever noticed an I/O swinging back and forth on a boat.

it won't swing in normal driving and if it did it wouldn't hurt anything in your, your kid's or your grand kid's lifetimes.

Thanks. I wanted to make sure we were all talking the same thing.

As others have said, I can't imagine it swinging around. Mine will often work to one side but it stays there once it is there. You could bungee cord the steering wheel I guess or use a strap to try to keep it straight, but I wouldn't worry about it.
