I just thought the thought of this was rather silly. I mean really, how intimidating is a cop on a Segway? Picture seeing some purse snatcher being chased by Segway Cops. It just tickles my funny bone. If that isn't fodder for the next Naked Gun movie, what is?:D

Re: Segway Cops

Why not, they have mounted police on horseback, and bicycle cops. I don't know what the max speed of a segway is, but if it is running speed, it would be a significant advantage to just be able to cruise behind a criminal and let him tire himself out. Another advantage is a cop on a segway would be like a cop on a bike, people don't realize they are cops right away. When I went through bike cop training, it was surprising how many people come up to you trying to sell you dope until they start to do the math on the whole gun belt police uniform thing. Kinda funny...

Drawback: I don't think a segway does staircases very well. You can fly down a staircase on a bike or horse...

I'll admit it, those Rascal commercials make those scooters look enticing... :)

I’ve got and old Swan tube type Radio (Swan 350) in the basement. I wonder if I put it in my car , deliberately detuned it so it would get a whole lot of standing wave, and went to a local St Louis mall where they run around on them and started talking skip, what would happen.8)

Re: Segway Cops

Send em to Milwaukee, the cops there can no longer wear leather jackets as they are too "intimidating". These would just be perfect. Put some snow tires on them and hit the streets.

For real?...:$
Do perps have an aversion to leather?
Can you stick an alpha drive on the front of that?
A 14x19 might be a preventative measure....d:)

I was watching a show on how corrupt the Milwaukee police dept was during the 80’s. Had no idea any police dept … the whole f**king dept!!! … could go that corrupt. I got the feeling it would be impossible to ever really get the Milwaukee PD clean again.

I've seen the police use the Segway in Albuquerque. They are quite effective at crowd control. They also lift you up above the crowd making it easier to see what's going on.

They go a lot faster than you can run also. You might out sprint one for a hundred feet, but not further.

Seems to me bikes are cheaper, faster, and can handle terrain better. Plus they keep the cops in shape. Cops in good shape is a good thing imo. Most of the firemen around here look like they could be in the NFL, the police officers? Not so much.

I hear what you're saying. I guess you have to see one of these things in action to be impressed. They do very well in tight quarters, where a bike would be a hindrance.

I'll bet at one time they said that about cars when the cops switched from horses... 8)

I don't want to bad mouth the Police, but the Seattle's guys n' gals in blue had two or three big corruption problems in the 1960s -the early 1980s. A little South of here down by Linc, (Tacoma) was even worse. In fact I think that has been a problem in many mid to large city locations. Probably why OJ got off. JR

Re: Segway Cops

Sorry to say that the Milwaukee police are as inept as ever. This comes from the police chiefs that were appointed, not for their knowledge, skill, expertise, but for their race or sex and their political alleigences.

Milwaukee is a socialist city. It was run by socialists for years. Not rhetoric real self proclaimed socialists. When the socialists were deemed too far right, the democrats took over. If you could see the corruption over just the past 5 years in Milwaukee government it would make your stomach turn. If you live here and saw the pension debacle and the cost to the city, you would wonder if the city wasn't run by Castro. Graft and corruption are still the hallmarks of Milwaukee Government. Hey come and swim at the beaches in Milwaukee, and see the handiwork of liberal goverment float by you wrapped in toilet paper.
