Re: Seized 454

Glad to see you took the "Cone King DOOM comments" with a grain of salt from your last thread!

FWI a SX-DP Volvo bolt onto the pivot housing...

Are you going to warm the engine up at all or keep it stock?

Not sure I saw the DOOM comment. No harm done. Only going .030 over and a stage 2 cam. Fuel will cost plenty as it is....I pick it up from the machine shop 1 week from today and get to start the assembly. Looking forward to it!!

When someone post's that they've got a KC cone, the drive may as well be destroyed or just a ticking time bomb, it can be scary on forums... I was just commenting how you keep you head down and your wrench turning and getting her done.

Mine scares me sometimes, but i'll tell you what it is supposed to be bullet proof and next to my BFFFF's B3, that B3 looks like a paper weight... :)

I can's see your pic BTW.

While the King Kobra (Dog-clutch) model was considered "bullet proof" (I have heard of several that survived behind 572 cu-in BBF's!!)

I wouldn't exactly call a Bravo III a "paper weight"

Here's they are side by side......

I don't think the later cone-clutch models are any heavier duty than the the one above knowing that people were putting very high HP 460+ Fords in front of them!!

Cheers,

Re: Seized 454

Two different drives dog v. cone.

I wish the SX wasn't such a capable drive, and when Volvo took on OMC they would have continued with the Big Daddy as a HO option :) A DP KC would've been an unstoppable beast!

Well, the Volvo DP already is an unstoppable beast I guess....

Everything sort of started with Kiekhaefer though ....

This is worth reading if you want to know who really designed the Volvos and OMCs in the beginning..... http://www.rbbi.com/folders/pat/isd.htm

The PO had 3K in work done to the outdrive a few months before he hydrauliced the engine. it will be pulled and opened up before the engine is installed. We'll figure it out.

I never try to upload pictures anymore. I just use Photobucket and post the links. It works FAR better. and you can pull them in future if you want by just moving them out of one folder and into another.

The links look like the one below (except for the *** I put in to keep it from displaying an error)

Re: Seized 454

The color sucks but one thing that OMG did well was the paint......you can't get that stuff off easily. The block was hot tanked twice and all other parts once at 180* and it's all still intact. Had someone ask me who the engine paint was done by. It is ready to drop...I mean gently lower back into the boat.

Re: Seized 454

Forgot to take pictures yesterday, but the engine is ready to go back in. 12 Saturdays of working on it and a few more to go.

Pulling the outdrive next Saturday to look at the gimble bearing, pressure check and fill per the OMC factory (don't fill from the bottom, correct?) manual prior to installing engine.

What fluid should be used in the KC outdrive?

Thanks
