Seized Motor? HELP!!!

Hi Guys,

I picked up a '95 Mariah Talari 180 in the offseason and had it out for the first time last week. It had a little bit of a noise but figured it was just the lifters needing adjustment. Everything started off fine until all of a sudden it stalled and click click click. We got towed back and I pulled the starter and it was seized. Pulled the plugs out, no water, oil, etc. Checked the oil, not milky, also took a magnet to the dipstick to check for metal...found nothing.

Had the starter rebuilt and put it back on and it starts...but has this terrible noise coming from the bottom half right around the starter/flywheel area. pulled the starter & took it to advance auto and they tested it and it sounded and performed fine.

Noticed that when the starter is off, the motor spins, not too freely, but I can get it to turn with a bar. it does seem to have tight spots though. Put the starter back on and it's hard again.

Again, it starts but has a terrible noise to it.
I'm afraid that my motor is seized before the season even starts! I'm still making payments on this boat too! I tried attaching a sound clip and posting to youtube but I can't seem to make it work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Re: Seized Motor? HELP!!!

We don't really car what kind of boat you have, what we do need to know is what engine and drive you have. Be specific, serial numbers are best.

If you engine runs, it's not siezed. You need to remove the outdrive to see if the engne turns easier. Would be bad to do a lot of engine work, only to find drive problems.
