Seized Powerhead?

Before I go ahead and order a rebuilt powerhead, can anyone suggest any other problems that could possibly explain this? While trolling, my port motor (175 HP 1999 Evinrude, 850 hrs, E175FCXEEN) started sounding very slightly different. Barely noticeable. After a minute or two, it just stopped. We tried to crank it and the starter was torquing because you could see the motor jump but the motor wouldn't turn. A handful of times it would turn maybe one revolution and then stop again. We tried it a few more times on the way back to port but it wouldn't turn. I was guessing a seized powerhead, and this morning I took the plugs out and put the lower unit in gear and I can't turn the prop by hand, so I'm still guessing seized powerhead. With the stbd motor that runs fine, I can turn the prop by hand while in gear without even taking the plugs out. Never had any warning lights so I assume it was getting oil and there are no codes in the ECU. Anything else I should check before I break out the credit card?

I would also take a look at the lower unit. Try draining the lower unit oil and look for metal shards. If you can eliminate the lower unit as a possible cause, then start digging into the powerhead. Was there any evidence of metal or water on any of the spark plugs? Were any of the plugs noticeably different than any of the others?

The lower unit shifts smoothly between gears and the prop spins fine in neutral. This lower unit only has maybe 150 hours on it.

The #1 plug was definitely different. It was all black and covered with sludge. The other five plugs were clean.

I dropped the lower unit and it's fine. Definitely a seized powerhead.

As I said, the #1 plug was all black. What is the potential cause of this powerhead failure? Cracked block or failed head gasket allowing water into cylinder 1?
