Seized Prop

I posted this question in the Force forum, but wanted to ask here as well (since it's a prop ?)

I have a prop that is seized onto my 96 120 HP Force. It only comes off 1/4 of the way. I have a puller, and don't care if I destroy the prop getting it off (I ordered a new one). My concern is damaging the shaft.

I have this can of spray that is supposed to unseize anything. I just want to get it off and lube the shaft so when I do hit something (murphy) I can swap props without hassel.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Greg

Re: Seized Prop

If it comes off a 1/4 of the way, then at least you have a start. Spray the prop shaft and let the oil work. If you can wiggle the prop back and forth the 1/4 of an inch it just might loosen up enough to come off. When you go to install the new one use an anti-sieze lubricant on the shaft. Saves headaches next time. Also, if you don't remove your prop, make a habit of taking it off now and again to prevent this problem in the future.

Re: Seized Prop

If it keeps easing off with the puller, it shouldn't damage the shaft. I pulled my old prop right off the hub and then pulled the hub off. it was a slow process. Ther was quite allot of corrosion in the hub that even kroil had a hard time with. Like the man says "any grease is better than no grease".
