(late) spring prep after a long sit over the winter. . .
1977 85hp. My second seized steering tube in as many years. Had to cut the steering cable to remove the motor and soak in PB blaster. It's out now.
Seems like no matter how much I apply lube to the shaft, unless I completely remove the cable and lube it it's going to seize over the winter. The problem with that is there's not enough clearance on the transom to remove the cable w/ the motor attached. There's also no threads on the far size to use one of those caps with the built-in zirc.
I'm thinking I can probably fit a zirc into the tube the cable passes through. Has anyone done this? Is the tube thick enough to take a zirc w/o interfering with the operation of the steering?
