I'll play with it some more, but I have gotten no movement at all. I'm afraid I'll have to replace the part. I have a '73 7.5 hp for parts. OK, what will I have to do to change them. BTW compression is 118 and 126 ,so I think this powerhead is worthy.

Have you tried heating the outer casing of the swivel bracket? If not you might try a heat gun to expand the casing.

You can check the parts list, but I believe the 9.8 (110) and 7.5 share the same bracket and many other parts.

I have a thread here on iBoats where I added a second grease fitting on the lower end of the swivel to get more lube into the swivel.

What am I going to have to pull apart to get at it, if I change it ?

You can see it had been a problem with these motors,. I have a '73 7.5 hp with no grease nipples, this '74 9.8 with one grease nipple in the middle of the swivel and a later model 7.5 made up of a '76 and a '77 which has four, top and bottom on the swivel and two on the tilt. Mine are Canadian models and Mercury did running changes.

Except for parts, I only paid $100 for one of the later 7.5s and $50 for the 9.8
