Long story short, I am interested in a 35 or 45 horse (yet to be determined) Mariner from late 1980s. Oil Injected. Seller said that he's only had it one year and winterized it. Hasn't added oil, just gas to the boat. Should I not look at this boat or is it possible that if he didn't use it enough that the oil in the reservoir of the tank still had some oil in it. I thought on an oil injected boat you should add or at least check it each time out.

I guess it was winterized then used and must've been no issues. Runs perfect, maybe it didn't go through much oil.

The small Mercs only have a small reservoir under the cowling, so I guess he did not use it too much last year. A lot of folks fill the oil reservoir when it gets low, the low light comes on etc. I fill mine every time I add gas, and I usually fill the gas tank, but that is my preference.

One tank of gas lasts longer than 1 tank of oil. If the oil ran out before the gas the motor would be real shiny inside and there would be a lit of broken internal parts.

You need to ask more questions I think. Does it run, how well, any issues? Just because he hasn't added any oil , could mean many things.
It's a late 80's used outboard, so what's the rest of the story?
