Decided to sell my '75 merc 1150 outboard. It's a good strong clean motor but I haven't had it on a boat in 3 years. A guy came to look at it today and I wheeled it out into the driveway, hooked up the muffs, battery and fuel and it fired right up. He says he'll let me know this evening if he's going to take it or not. After he left, I started it again, ran it for a little bit and really started rethinking my decision to sell it. I don't have room to buy a second boat just to put that motor on but for some reason I hate to see the thing go. The guy who wants to buy it has a '63 Rude thats on its last legs and wants mine to replace it. I suppose the old Merc should be out on the water out making people happy rather than sitting in my garage. Still-- makes me a little sad to see it go.

I know the feeling and it isnt fun. I just cant bring myself too putting mine up for sale actually have three boats in the drive right now and 2 have too go and I am feeling real bad about letting my old 75 larson go too someone else. It just wouldnt be fair to store it and not bring the smiles like you say.

Sold my 14 foot fisher/ 20hp Johnny about 3 hours ago...Dad was cool, and his kid (8yrs) is gonna be the captain....it depends a hell of a lot more to WHO it goes to...(old Merc?..I'd shove it a corner after a good fogging and stabil/carb drain...they are getting rare...)

Re: Sellers remorse

On the bright side - there are plenty of motors out there should you ever decide to get a second boat. Also, I have found that it is not hard to find a motor when you're not looking for one. They only seem to be hard to find when you NEED one!
Also, if the guy decides to buy it, tell him you want first refusal should he ever want to sell it down the road...
