Selling my boat, to look for another.. emotional decision

Not regretting it, but it certainly it is emotional. I sold a boat two years ago that I had put a lot of work into. It was a move from an older, smaller, less powered boat to a slightly newer, bigger, more-powered boat, so your dilemma about going from a newer to an older boat did not apply. What did get me was reflecting on all the work I did on the boat, all the good times we had with that boat, and everything I learned about owning and maintaining a boat. I was a little sad when I saw it leaving the neighborhood hooked on to the back of someone else's truck. On the other hand, I had my bigger, more powerful boat patiently waiting to be taken out on the lake to make me feel better :). As it is often said, the two happiest days of a boat owner's life is the day he buys a boat, and the day he sells a boat. You have an advantage now in your search for a boat in that you now have realistic expectations on what a particular boat will and will not do. Good luck on your search for a new vessel.

I've had to let two go and it always has a little sting to it. But I typically get over it faster than I think I will. Next boat will have memories too; and really the memories are about the people more than the boat.

That said, older boats don't scare me. Older boats that haven't been cared for give me the willies. It's all about condition ... with the caveat that the fancier the boat is (more rigging) the more stuff there is to go wrong.

There is no issue with an '05 vintage boat other than prior owner maintenance. Most wake and ski boats are trailered and stowed in garages, so you should be able to find a well cared for model.

As others state, you'll likely get over sellers remorse once you're piloting the craft you seek. Have you looked at the type of wake boat you describe? They are slick, and the v-drives provide the similar driveability and versatility for family boating as your sterndrive as the engine is aft, freeboards are bigger, and they generally don't sit as low as an inboard. Happy hunting.

Out of curiosity what kind of boat are you going from and to? I get the impression the new one is a wake boat from some of the replies.

Hey, I'm going from a bayliner 185 to hopefully an axis a22 or a malibu wakesetter. Those are the 2 really have my heart set on, but due to cost I might settle for a moomba. I see you have a malibu yourself nice!

I went from a 2005 Bayliner 195 that we bought new to the Malibu this year. Nice upgrade for my skiing. Wakesetter is a sticker package ;) encompasses a lot of boats, what size range are you looking for? Mine is a 20ft, still a decent garage size and it puts out a nice wake for skiing while still having the toys needed to create a wake.

Which brand depends on what you are after, I was going to buy a new Moomba Outback V but after looking around a bit I decided the used VTX had a lot more to offer. What kind of price range are you looking at?

That's awesome! I'm really looking at 21-22ft. Although I've never rode inside a 20ft, so it's an option. My price range depends on how long I want to finance for lol. $30k range and I'll have comfortable payments and won't sign my life away. The max I'd probably spend is $50k. But I will do a 15 year loan and keep it for a long time. I just wouldn't be able to afford to pay cash or don't really want to settle for something really old. I know a lot of people say "don't finance a boat, that's stupid!" But I don't mind the payment

30-50K is a nice wide range mid to upper of that will find you a lot of nice newer boats. Definitely the right time of the year to be looking

Rule 8. You may not solicit any personal transaction (buy, sell, rent, trade free, donate, etc.) in the forum. This includes solicitations for charitable and non-profit causes. Personal transactions arranged completely by Private Message are not affected by this rule. Solicitation by PM must be preceded by contact in the forum. Please note: threads or posts that give extensive details on anything that is for sale will be assumed to be an attempt to advertise and are subject to deletion. If you are selling a boat - paid advertising through iboats is acceptable to post in the forum. A link to the ad is mandatory and must be included in your post. Signature links for boats advertised on iboats are acceptable. We encourage members to use this service.

Also you had a price and that's what triggered the edit along with the details. Even saying a buyer is in the wings doesn't change anything. Good luck with the new toy.
