I have a Selva 25hp, 400 sport, aprox 1986-9.The engine has developed a bad flooding problem with fuel running out of the exhaust on tring to start. I have cleaned and inspected the carb and can find no apparent fault, the float neddle valve appears to be none ajustable, there are no apparent leeks from any gaskets, seals or the neddle valve.I have also cleaned and inspected the fuel pump again there appears to be no appaent problems.
I have tried to run the engine by gravity feeding the fuel with only some improvement, (minor flooding on tick over), when conected back on to the fuel pump it floods up again. any ideas? thanks

Re: selva engine flooding

Compression test would be in line. Also ,check for spark to each cylinder.

Re: selva engine flooding

both cylinders have compressions in excess of 100 psi, and there is a good blue spark at each spark plug.

What about the float level?
The float needle seat?
The float needle in the right position, not upside down?
Everything moving freely?
No dirt in fuel, filter or carb bowl?

Selva is an unusual model exept for Italy and England. There is a few in Sweden but they are mostly for small boat racing.

Maybe you need a manual for the float level setting.

Good luck!

Re: selva engine flooding

As Bear mentioned if there is change in condition when gravity fed verses fuel pump I would dismantle determine whether needle valve is fully seating.

Re: selva engine flooding

Since posting the problem, I removed the neddle valve and inspected the seat, there are no apparent faults and the seat faces are like new. I have placed an extra fibre washer under the neddle valve body to lower the float level and run the engine with a gravity feed, with no flooding problems at all, until I reconected to the carb then it floods. The pressure from the fuel pump does'nt seem excessive, and the float is not punchered. Im still trying and still need idea's thanks again.

It sure appears the float needle is not closing right. Shake the float, gas may have leaked in
changing flotation. If it is a brass float you can
get the gas out and reseal with solder.Go easy on the heat or it may fall apart.
