sending unit for trim tilt 1990 mercruiser - bravo 1 outdrive

can they be fixed by cleaning parts . also which side<br />is what and what does it do . my trim gauge does not work. wires from sending unit on side of outdrive look ok. they go to the pump. how are they hooked to pump?? wires then go to gauge. is sending unit major problems. can you take them off and clean them and put back on with out a major job?? any help would be great..

The trim limit and trim sending switches usually fail from water intrusion and rust. If yours just went (1990) you were very lucky. You can buy new ones for about $75 to $85 on eBay, ussually someone has a set for sale.<br /><br />Replacement requires removal of outdrive. For the hassle and price (particulary retail price) most don't replace after boat exceeds 10 years or so...but I like to have the trim guage working because I'm always in shallow water docking and mooring.<br /><br />Port side should be limit switch, starboard, trim sending. Search this forum, this topic has been discussed frequently.
